Plata Quemada (Burnt Money) is an Argentine film based on the true story of a robbery in Buenos Aires in 1965. It’s beautifully directed by Marcelo Piñeyro and has that 60s stylin’ thing going for it, together with a highly charged story, and of course, gorgeous men – El Nene and Angel, the lovers who take part in the heist. The story within the central plot of the robbery is what makes this film so memorable – not a mindless shoot ‘em up, take the money and run film (although there is an escape to Uruguay) but a deeper story circulating throughout about the relationship between Angel and Nene, who have an intense and complex bond. If you haven’t seen it, do so immediately. I highly recommend this one.
